Sebastiaan van den Berg leaves HarbourVest
Sebastiaan van den Berg, Asia-based managing director with HarbourVest Partners, has left the firm after 10 years.
Regarding future plans, van den Berg is considering various options with a view to remaining in Asia and in the private equity industry, AVCJ understands.
Van den Berg joined HarbourVest's Hong Kong office in 2005 and focused on investments across the Asia Pacific region, sitting on the advisory boards of several private equity funds. Prior to this, he worked on mid-market buyout transactions for H&Q Asia Pacific and also had stints with AlpInvest Partners and Goldman Sachs.
HarbourVest did not comment as to who has assumed van den Berg's responsibilities. There are three managing directors listed as working out of the firm's Hong Kong office: Alex Rogers, who focuses on direct co-investments, secondaries specialist Tim Flower, and Hemal Mirani, who is responsible for investments and investor relations. The firm also has Michael Taylor and Tatsuya Kubo in Tokyo, and Sally Shan in Beijing.
Mirani rejoined HarbourVest this year, having left in 2009 for CVC Capital Partners after an 11-year stint. The reason given for her re-appointment was that more people were required to take up leadership roles in the region.
In the last five years, HarbourVest has added offices in Tokyo and Beijing to its existing Hong Kong base, more than doubled headcount in the region, and increased investment pace from $150 million in 2009 to $700 million in 2014.
