Private Equity fund managers in Japan have for a long time felt as though a dam was poised to burst and release a torrent of deals: Perhaps because of the government's protective instincts when it comes to allowing companies to fail, change has been slow coming. It seems though that the recent global financial crisis might be the impetus investors have been looking for: Japanese companies, recognising the limitations of their domestic markets, have set their sights on distant horizons, seeking to transplant successful Japanese businesses into overseas markets. Japanese investors meanwhile are similarly looking outward for returns from the "alternative" asset classes, including private equity as well as real estate and infrastructure. Innovation technology has also received lots of investor interest in the past year, due to the newly set up government PE fund manager – INCJ. AVCJ's Private Equity & Venture Forum/Japan 2010, the eleventh annual installment of the series, will examine what's really changing in Japan's approach to business, investment, and the rest of the world. Book your seat now at the AVCJ Japan Private Equity & Venture Forum 2010, scheduled for 20-22 April at the ANA Intercontinental Tokyo.
Location: ANA Intercontinental, Tokyo, Japan

The annual meeting in China looks into a new chapter of the China PE story, against the backdrop of signs of global recovery and local developments for foreign and RMB funds. It examines the change of capital flow (specifically with the potential retreat of stimulus measures), its interaction with fundraising and a focused list of issues that LPs concern about investing in China. The forum furthers studies if we are heading in the right direction in the way we forge deals in deal sourcing, valuation and portfolio management in China. Deal diversification in terms of sectors and geographies are explored, and the momentum and future of Growth Capital debated. We review the possible exits and new ones (in particular, the ChiNext board) in China. Last but not least, we investigate the changing ecosystem of foreign funds and RMB funds, especially as benefited/affected by recent regulatory moves.
