CVC’s Hemal Mirani to rejoin HarbourVest
Hemal Mirani, head of Asia investor relations at CVC Capital Partners, will join HarbourVest Partners as a managing director. She previously spent over 11 years at HarbourVest before leaving in 2009 for the role at CVC.
Mirani, who is also chief administrative officer at CVC, was most recently involved in raising the private equity firm's fourth pan-Asian fund, which closed earlier this year at the hard cap of $3.5 billion. At HarbourVest, she will participate in fundraising efforts as well as working on the operational side.
George Anson, managing director at HarbourVest, told AVCJ that as the firm has grown in scale so has the need for more people to take up leadership roles in the region.
"There is a need for more senior leadership, particularly on the operational and logistics side of our business, and in investor relations. We have more than doubled our headcount in the last five years, and our investment pace has gone from $150 million in 2009 to $700 million this year," he said.
HarbourVest has been participating in funds, secondary transactions and co-investments in Asia since 1984. The firm set up an office in Hong Kong in 1996 and Mirani was among the first Asia-based employees, working with Philip Bilden to build the business in the region. A Tokyo office opened in 2010 and this was followed by a Beijing office in 2012.
Mirani will start work at HarbourVest in January.
