VPCP and Citi back InvestLab with $10m
VantagePoint Capital Partners (VPCP) and Citigroup subsidiary Citi Ventures have led a $10 million Series A funding round for Hong Kong-based financial technology company InvestLab.
InvestLab, which also has offices in Singapore and San Francisco, is dedicated to providing the first open trading platform. Its products include social investing website Tradepop.com and MIX, a platform for retail brokerage firms.
Melissa Guzy, managing director and head of emerging markets Asia for VPCP, joins the company's board alongside InvestLab Founder and CEO Mark Munoz and CEO Nate Emerson. "As Asian economies mature, investors across the region are increasingly seeking new investment platforms that leverage new technologies to break down the barriers to global markets. Investlab is developing solutions that respond directly to those needs," she commented.
Citi Ventures' Asia Managing Director Wei Hopeman added that her firm supported InvestLab as it believes it will help change the way people use technology to manage their investments.
VPCP invested in another firm in Greater China's financial services sector last year. In July it backed Beijing MYFP Wealth Management, which offers professional and personal financial advice to Chinese individuals and families.
VantagePoint specializes in the financial services, energy and IT industries, and has strengthened its focus on targets in the ‘FinTech' space, which covers assets related to both the TMT and financial services segments. It claims $4.5 billion of committed capital.
The investor is headquartered in Silicon Valley and has offices in Hong Kong and Beijing. It has invested in more than 70 companies including BrightSource Energy, MiaSolé, Liquid Robotics, Solazyme, Tesla Motors and Tendril.
