
Providence-owned Study Group buys Australian college
Study Group, an education services provider owned by Providence Equity Partners, has acquired ANU College from Australian National University. Financial details were not disclosed.
ANU College provides English language and pathway courses to the university and it is hoped that under Study Group's direction, more international students will come through the college and move on to the university. There will no change in ANU College's name, staffing and study programs.
"The university believes that Study Group is well equipped to advance ANU College as it has a global perspective with expertise in the provision of English language and pathway education as well as international resources and infrastructure," Australia National University said in a statement.
Study Group provides preparatory programs for higher education, career education and English language teaching in the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand and North America. Though the higher education institutions with which it partners, the company provides course to approximately 50,000 students.
CHAMP Private Equity and Petersen Investments bought Study Group in 2006 for $157 million from Daily Mail and General Trust. They sold it to Providence four years later for $570 million.
ANU College receives about 350 international students each year.
