Ex-Auda Asia head Pak-Seng Lai joins Vision Knight
Vision Knight Capital (VKC) has appointed Pak-Seng Lai, formerly head of Asia at Auda, as managing partner. He will join the China-focused private equity firm in July.
The appointment comes two months after VKC closed its second fund at the hard cap of $550 million. The firm, which raised $250 million for its debut vehicle in 2011, invests in the internet, e-commerce and B2B services spaces, as well as in consumer businesses with a strong e-commerce element.
Based in Hong Kong, Lai will focus on investments and portfolio companies in Southern China, as well as capital market relationships in Hong Kong.
"We are excited to have Pak-Seng join us. He is one of the most experienced veterans in Asian private equity. His extensive experience in both direct and fund investments will strengthen VKC's leadership position in the industry," said David Wei, the firm's founding partner and chairman, in a statement.
Lai spent seven years at Auda, which has about $5 billion under management across fund-of-funds, secondaries and co-investment. Before that, he worked at fund-of-funds Adveq Management as head of investment process management and at Greater China and Southeast Asia-focused Transpac Capital as an investment manager.
Lai has been replaced at Auda by Jacob Chiu, formerly of FLAG Squadron Asia. David Pierce, another FLAG Squadron alumnus, was announced as head of Asia at Harald Quandt Capital, Auda's parent company, two weeks ago.
