David Pierce appointed Asia head of HQ Capital
David Pierce, previously a partner at FLAG Squadron Asia, has been appointed managing director and head of Asia at Harald Quandt (HQ) Capital.
The firm, a private investment group owned by the Harald Quandt family of Germany, has approximately $12 billion in assets under management. It focuses on investments in private equity and real estate. Pierce is tasked with developing investors and these businesses across the region.
HQ Capital is primarily active in Asia through Auda International, which invests in PE through comingled primary fund-of-funds, secondary fund-of-funds and co-investments. Other assets include Equita, a PE fund manager that targets on small and mid-cap companies in German-speaking markets, and US-based Real Estate Capital Partners.
Pierce has more than three decades of experience in Asia, more than half of which has been in private equity.
He was senior managing director of Hong Kong-based family office Search Investment Group and led a spin-out in 2006, becoming founding CEO of independent fund-of-funds Squadron Capital. The firm agreed a merger with FLAG Capital in 2012 and Pierce departed the following year.
Pierce is currently chair of the Asia Council of the Emerging Markets Private Equity Association and a former chairman of the Hong Kong Venture Capital & Private Equity Association.
Last week, Jacob Chiu, who also left FLAG Squadron Asia last year, was named managing director and head of Auda's Asia business.
