Monk's Hill names new partner in Indonesia

Singapore-based Monk’s Hill Ventures has appointed Jakarta native Susli Lie as a partner responsible for building the firm’s Indonesia business.
Lie (pictured), who joined the firm in February last year as a venture partner, will head up the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) program as well, while also supporting portfolio companies on the ground.
“Susli has been instrumental in bringing her previous experience as a founder to build out our Indonesia presence and team since she joined. She personifies our operational DNA and has a proven track record in working with founders to effectively scale their companies in the region,” Peng Ong, a co-founder and managing partner at Monk’s Hill, said in a statement.
Lie’s experience includes co-founding ErudiFi, a tech-enabled education financing company based in Singapore that received early backing from Monk’s Hill. In this role, she was recognised as the first female founder from Indonesia to be backed by Y Combinator.
Lie is also a finance professional, having built a career with global experience at the cross-section of finance, international development, and technology. She previously made investments for YCAB Ventures in Indonesia and Leapfrog Investments in Singapore, as well as serving as Asia Pacific chief of staff at Oliver Wyman.
Monk’s Hill positions itself as a partnership of entrepreneurs. An ongoing team expansion during the past few years has included the appointment of Michele Daoud, formerly a financial analyst at Google, and Justin Nguyen, a gaming engineer and entrepreneur, as partners in Singapore and Vietnam, respectively.
The early-stage VC firm invests across a range of technology-enabled categories, including cloud computing, big data analytics, and internet applications. It reached a final close on its second Southeast Asia fund in 2020 with USD 100m in commitments.
