Renuka Ramnath becomes first female chair of IVCA
Renuka Ramnath, the founder and CEO of Multiples Alternative Asset Management, has been appointed chairperson of the Indian Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (IVCA).
Ramnath, who has been involved with the organization since its inception in 2010 and previously served as vice chair, succeeds Paddy Sinha, until recently a managing partner at Tata Opportunities Fund. She is the first woman to hold the position. Karthik Reddy of Blume Ventures is the new vice chair.
Ramnath established Multiples in 2009 and the firm is currently raising its third fund, which has a target of $800 million. Prior to this, she spent the bulk of her career with ICICI Group, initially with ICICI Securities and then with the structured finance division. Ramnath went on to lead several technology-related initiatives before becoming CEO of ICICI Venture in 2001. She is acknowledged as one of the pioneers of the country’s domestic PE and VC industry.
WinPE, a recently formed non-profit platform that promotes gender diversity in India’s alternative investment community, described Ramnath’s appointment as “a major step forward in women leadership in PE/VC.” The organization was set up by Nupur Garg, formerly regional lead for South Asia as the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
