Chinese fashion design platform raises $14m
Linctex Digital, a Shanghai-based design services platform for the fashion industry, has raised RMB100 million ($14 million) in funding led by Gaorong Capital. Shunwei Capital, Vision Plus Capital, Baidu Ventures and Yinxinggu Capital also took part.
Founded in 2015, Linctex's digital design tools are primarily aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), helping them optimize workflow. However, the company's clients also include the likes of leading domestic coat manufacturer Bosideng and global fashion brand Mango.
Linctex's flagship product is Style 3D, which maintains a database of thousands of different fabrics and clothing styles. Brand owners use this online resource to render designs and then communicate with in-house or third-party manufacturers. The use of a digital prototype saves time and money because there is no need to make repeated modifications to physical prototypes.
For SMEs that lack supply chain resources, Linctex can run the entire production process, collaborating with manufacturers in its networks.
Digitalizing traditional industries has become a popular investment theme. Kujiale, which provides online 3D rendering tools for decorators and interior designers, achieved unicorn status with its recent Series D round. Meanwhile, Baibu has evolved from a B2B fabric trading platform into a cloud-based consolidator of factories. It raised $300 million in Series D funding last month.
Michael Mao, co-founder and managing director of Yunqi Capital, previously told AVCJ that the prevailing trend in China’s fashion industry is for small orders of tailormade products with a fast turnaround. Digital solutions providers like Style 3D are benefiting because they help control costs.
