TPG hires KKR's David Tan in Singapore
TPG Capital has engaged David Tan, a former director with KKR’s private equity team, as a managing director based in Singapore with responsibility for Southeast Asia.
Tan will work with Ganen Sarvananthan and Dominic Picone, a managing partner and partner, respectively, in TPG’s Asia business. It comes six months after the firm closed its seventh and largest Asia-focused fund to date at $4.6 billion.
Tan worked for KKR across the firm’s Menlo Park, Hong Kong and Singapore offices for about 10 years. Before that, he served as an analyst for UBS in the US. “David’s strong reputation and years of investing experience will be a significant addition to our fast-growing business in Southeast Asia,” Sarvananthan said in a statement.
TPG has about 50 investment professionals around the broader region at bases in Beijing, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Seoul, and Melbourne, in addition to Singapore. Last year, the firm’s middle-market platform added to its Southeast Asia team with the recruitment of Shailesh Rao, a former Twitter and Google executive, who will also be responsible for India.
Globally, TPG claims $108 billion of assets under management across private equity, growth equity, real estate, credit, and public equity. Focus sectors include financial services, healthcare, consumer, technology, media, and telecom. Recent investments in Southeast Asia include the regional pathology assets of Australian hospital operator Healthscope and data center services provider AirTrunk.
