I am pleased to announce the official launch of our AVCJ Asian Private Equity & Venture Forum 2011 and this year’s conference rocks. I am obviously biased but our roster of speakers simply speaks for itself.
The event is headlined by David Bonderman, whose TPG Capital reclaims the mantle as the world's biggest private equity fund, and Carlyle's David Rubenstein. They are joined by Christopher Flowers (remember Shinsei Bank?) and Bain Capital's John Connaughton.
In terms of LPs, our powerhouse cast includes Joe Dear, CIO of CalPERS, Goldman's Chris Kojima, Thomas Kubr, CEO of Capital Dynamics and George Siguler. And let's not forget the biggest names in Asian private equity will also be present, such as the likes of Affinity's KY Tang, Hony Capital's John Zhao and PAG's Weijian Shan.
Visit www.avcjforum.com for details.
Quality is a key feature of any AVCJ event and this one is head and shoulders above any others. As regular delegates know, one of the biggest differentiators is the editorial content of our programs. We put an unusually large amount of time and effort into researching our topics and work continuously in the run-up to the conference, fine tuning panel topics to make sure the discussion is relevant to your business. To do this we rely on speakers, sponsors and you, AVCJ readers, for your insights and feedback.
I've taken the liberty to include a few key themes that we believe stand out as topics for discussion. They are:
1) Global funds establishing Asian operations. While most of the largest funds had Asian strategies in place well before the global financial crisis, the past year has seen quite a few new entrants to Asia. Will this continue and what effects will it have on the ecosystem?
2) How have renminbi funds affected the way private equity is conducted in China? Will a new crop of Chinese LPs help this become the new standard or will traditional US dollar funds prevail?
3) What will be LP's response to the mega buyout funds returning the market?
4) Venture funds return to centre stage as IPO markets drive returns for early stage investors. Will this trend continue?
5) Sovereign wealth funds' role in private equity.
These are but a few of the topics that will be discussed at the conference. We would like to get your involvement, so please feel free to email me any thoughts or suggestions you might have. Thank you.
