Blackstone changes up Asia leadership
The Blackstone Group has appointed Chris Heady as chairman for the Asia Pacific region. He will retain his existing responsibilities as head of real estate in the region.
Heady will work alongside Jan Nielsen, who has been promoted to chief operating officer for the firm's businesses and administrative functions in Asia Pacific. Nielsen currently leads Blackstone's private equity investment activities in Southeast Asia, Japan and South Korea.
Daisuke Kitta, who leads the firm's real estate group in Japan, has been appointed country head, while Carol Kim has become chief operating officer for investor relations in Asia Pacific. Her job title was previously senior managing director for investor relations and business development.
Heady joined Blackstone in 2000 from Morgan Stanley and has completed investments valued at approximately $3 billion in China, India, Japan and Australia. His appointment comes two years after Michael Chae, the firm's head of international private equity, returned to the US after a nearly four-year stint in Hong Kong. Chae now serves as CFO of Blackstone.
Last year, the firm appointed Liping Zhang, formerly of Credit Suisse, as senior managing director and Greater China chairman. Zhang replaced Antony Leung, who stepped down from his role as chairman in late 2013 to become CEO of Hong Kong conglomerate Nan Fung Group.
Blackstone has over $330 billion in assets under management, which includes investment vehicles focused on private equity, real estate, public debt and equity, non-investment grade credit, real assets and secondary funds.
