CLSA’s cleantech fund hires water-focused operating partner
CLSA Capital Partners has appointed Dr. Richard Woodling, previously director of global research and development at Siemens’ water R&D center in Singapore, as an operating partner in the Clean Resources Asia Growth Fund (CRAGF).
He will work with the portfolio companies in the water space as well as participating in the sourcing and evaluation of investment opportunities in global water technologies.
Woodling has spent more than 24 years working in water technology and his expertise covers ion exchange and advanced media, activated carbon modification, advanced biological treatment, low energy desalination, advanced oxidation processes and computational fluid dynamics. He has held senior operating and technology positions at US Filter and Veolia, as well as at Siemens Water.
"We have known Richard for many years and are delighted to have someone of his caliber join the team," said Peter Kennedy, head of CRAGF. "Our portfolio companies are already benefiting from his knowledge and network and I know he will substantially bolster our strategy in the water sector."
CRAGF, which launched in 2009 with a target of $200 million, focuses on five fields: sustainable agriculture, water, recycling, energy efficiency and cleaner energy.
Prime areas of interest in the water segment include desalination, irrigation solutions and wastewater treatment, although there is also considerable crossover with sustainable agriculture in areas such as water conservation technologies.
The fund's current water portfolio companies are desalination services provider Aqualyng, India-based water and wastewater management platform Earth Water Group, and Chinese wastewater treatment and desalination specialist Scinor Water.
