
Tech in Asia secures $4m funding round
Tech in Asia, a Singapore-based digital media company that focuses on Asian start-ups, has raised a $4 million round led by SB ISAT Fund, a $50 million vehicle backed by Japan's SoftBank and Indonesia's Indosat.
Existing backers East Ventures, Fenox Venture Capital and Simile Venture Partners also took part. Other participants include Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, Walden International Marvelstone, M&S Partners, and Nitrous co-founder Andrew Solimine.
The start-up is understood to have raised nearly $7 million to date, having raised $2.89 million across seed, Series A, and Series B rounds.
Set up in 2011, Tech in Asia runs a news portal with a presence in Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand and China. It also has a conference business. The company claims to have 2.4 million views per month across its English and Indonesian websites.
The start-up recently revamped its website to encourage more user-generated content. It also recently integrated Techlist, a paid-for analytics services which also acts as a platform for investors and founders to connect.
According to a statement, Tech in Asia - which recently graduated from the Winter 2015 batch of Y Combinator's accelerator - hopes to expand its business with a view to becoming a one-stop platform for Asian tech start-ups.
