TPG hires Goldman PE veteran as MD
TPG Capital has reportedly hired Steve Sun, Managing Director of Goldman Sachs, as a China Partner, global media reports.
Hong Kong-based Sun has been a leader at the US investment bank’s private equity unit since 2006, when he departed rival firm Morgan Stanley after elevating to an MD role. Goldman Sachs and TPG declined comment despite several reports noting that Sun has already quit the bank.
News broke earlier this month that TPG aims to strengthen its executive lineup with professions who can maintain a focus on China. This reportedly includes a hunt for a Chinese-speaking Chairman. The push follows the departure of two TPG China-focused executives: Shan Weijian, who joined Hong Kong-base Pacific Alliance Group as Chairman and CEO after his 12 years at TPG, and Mary Ma, a high-profile dealmaker in the China market who left to launch a fund with Louis Cheung, the Executive Director and President of Ping An Insurance.
