TPG appoints Khazanah's Ganen Sarvananthan as Asia partner
TPG Capital has appointed Ganen Sarvananthan, former executive director and head of investments at Malaysian sovereign wealth fund Khazanah, as a partner and managing director with its Asian business.
According to a release, Sarvananthan first joined Khazanah in 2004 as a director of investments and became executive director in 2006. Before joining Khazanah, he was a director of equity capital markets with UBS Investment Bank in Hong Kong.
Prior to that, he served the bank's investment banking and corporate finance departments in London and Singapore. He is also a barrister-at-law and a member of Lincoln's Inn, London. Sarvananthan will take up his new position with TPG on April 30.
Dominic Silva, executive director of investments at Khazanah, will assume the role of head of investments from February. Meanwhile, Zaida Khalida Shaari, director of investments, will be promoted to executive director while Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn - current CEO at Danajamin Nasional - will join Khazannah in May to also become executive director of investments.
Sarvananthan's appointment at TPG follows a recent shuffle of firm's top management. Last November senior partner Tim Dattels was called back to Asia to lead the firm's operations in the region alongside former Credit Suisse banker Ben Gray, replacing Stephen Peel who has since withdrawn from day-to-day management.
TPG is currently raising its sixth Asia fund, which has been in the market for more than 18 months and is expected to reach a final close of around $3 billion early this year, having recently passed the $2.3 billion mark. The original target was reportedly $5 billion.
