Simpson Thacher adds fund formation partner in Asia
Adam Furber, a Hong Kong-based member of Simpson Thacher’s private funds practice, has been elected to partner. He was previously counsel at the firm.
An associate at Davis Polk before joining Simpson Thacher, Furber has been based in Asia for more than 11 years. He has worked on the formation and ongoing operation of funds raised by the likes of Advantage Partners, Ascendent Capital Partners, The Blackstone Group, JD Capital, New Horizon, NewQuest Capital Partners and Yunfeng Capital.
With Furber's promotion, Simpson Thacher now has two fund formation partners in the region. Phil Culhane's current stint in Asia began in 1998 and he became a partner in 2002.
There have been several partner-level movements within law firms' private funds practices in Asia this year. Dean Collins, formerly head of O'Melveny & Myers' Asia fund formation practice joined Dechert as managing partner of the firm's newly-opened Singapore office, while Pang Lee left Shearman & Sterling to become a partner at Cooley, which specializes in VC funds out of the US and China.
Albert Cho, a partner at Kirkland & Ellis, was hired by Weil to work alongside existing private funds partner John Fadely. Kirkland & Ellis duly promoted Damian Jacobs and Jonathan Tadd to partner. They join incumbents Justin Dolling and Carol Liu - taking the firm's partner count in Asia to four - while Christopher Braunack has relocated to London but still works on some Asia business.
