HarbourVest opens Korea office
HarbourVest Partners has opened an office in Seoul. It will be led by Minjun Chung, who is already responsible for investment opportunities and client relations in South Korea.
This is the firm's fourth base in Asia - joining Hong Kong, Tokyo and Beijing - and the ninth globally. The firm launched its office in Tel Aviv, Israel simultaneously with Korea.
Chung, whose promotion to principal was announced last month, joined HarbourVest in 2011, having previously worked for Qatar Holding and Pantheon. In addition to identifying primary, secondary and co-investments, he has led the development of the firm's Korean investor base.
HarbourVest has more than 300 employees, including 86 investment professionals, across Asia, Europe, and the Americas, and $37 billion in assets under management. It has committed more than $30 billion to newly-formed funds globally, completed over $13 billion in secondary purchases, and made $5 billion in direct investments. Total assets under management are $37 billion.
Last month, Hamilton Lane opened an office in Seoul, also with a view to deepening ties with the local institutional investor market.
