Manish Chokani to head TPG Growth India
Manish Chokhani has been appointed chairman of TPG Growth India.
He will assume responsibility for growth investments in India and Southeast Asia, leading a team of six professionals targeting small and medium-sized high-growth companies.
Chokhani was formerly managing director and CEO of Axis Capital, leaving his post last November and assisting TPG Growth as an advisor.
During his tenure at Axis, Chokhani oversaw the integration of Enam Securities' financial services business into one of Axis Bank's subsidiaries following the bank's INR14billion ($233 million) buyout of Enam in 2010. He continues to serve as a director with Enam Holdings and as an advisor at Axis Bank.
"I am filled with optimism about the opportunity," Chokhani said in a statement. "The brief is clearly to step up the pace of investments and engagement in India as we seem set for a big revival of the growth cycle with a new government also acting as a catalyst."
TPG Growth's India investments were previously led by Varun Kapur who was a partner and managing director with the firm from 2007 until the middle of last year. The firm saw another senior executive depart in March when Amol Jain, a managing director, left to pursue his own venture. Punit Bhatia is currently head of TPG Capital India.
TPG Growth is a separate arm of TPG which targets high growth businesses and has an average ticket size of less than $75 million. In Asia it typically makes it investments in India and China.
