Ark Alternative hires Shunichi Umino to head LP relations
Japanese placement agent Ark Totan Alternative has hired Shunishi Umino as its head of financial institution sales.
According to a statement, Umino will be responsible for maintaining relationships with LPs, particularly in the financial institutions space, as well as GP relationships.
Prior to joining Ark, Umino set up Wilshire Japan - an Asian investment arm of US fund-of-funds Wilshire Private Markets - in 2007. He was responsible for research and due diligence covering local GPs.
Before Wilshire, he worked with Morgan Stanley's Japan fund-of-funds business and spearheaded efforts to start up the private equity investment program at the Pension Fund Association.
Ark Alternative Advisors is a Tokyo-based boutique placement agent firm, set up in late 2010, which focuses on domestic pension funds. This is the firm's second high-profile hire this year. In January it appointed Hidenori Suzuki - formerly head of advisory at J.P. Morgan Asset Management Japan - as executive vice president.
