Aureos invests $10 million for minority stake in Central Indian hospital group
Emerging markets-focused PE firm Aureos Capital has invested $10 million for a minority stake in BSR Super Speciality Hospitals Ltd.
According to an Aureos statement, BSR's assets include six diagnostic centers and two major hospitals - on of which specializes in cancer treatment - across five cities in Central India. "The Indian healthcare sector, particularly in the underserved region of Central India, is chronically under-funded, which has created a huge demand for private investment in the Indian hospital industry," G.V. Kumar, Partner of Aureos India, said in the statement, which also noted that India's hospital and diagnostic services market is expected to grow as much as 20% YoY.
When contacted by AVCJ, Kumar confirmed that the firm would take a minority stake in BSR but could not elaborate on its stake size.
Aureos Capital focuses on investments into small- and medium-sized businesses across Asia, Africa and Latin America. Launched in 2001, the firm claims more than $1.2 billion under management across 16 regional private equity funds.
