Harjit Bhatia forms Asia Growth Capital Advisors with ex Credit Suisse India, Southeast Asia team
Asian private equity veteran Harjit Bhatia has recently reemerged as Chairman and CEO of Asia Growth Capital Advisors, a private equity firm he founded along with his ex-partners at Credit Suisse Private Equity Asia.
The firm may soon set up a new opportunities fund, focused on providing flexible capital to fast-growing mid-market companies in India and Southeast Asia. Bhatia was until recently Chairman of Credit Suisse’s private equity business in Asia, and had previously founded and led General Electric’s private equity presence in Asia Pacific, with offices in India, Japan, Hong Kong, and Australia.
Asia Growth Capital can be considered a spinoff of Credit Suisse’s Asian private equity arm, with the Swiss bank’s India and Southeast Asia teams joining the new entity. It is believed that Bhatia has also personally helped members of CS’ China and Korea PE teams find positions with other firms. While most of their destinations are unknown, it is believed that Steven Kwok, formerly head of China private equity at Credit Suisse, has joined NM Rothschild.
Harjit Bhatia and colleagues will continue to have strong relations with their former employers, as they are currently managing around 9 legacy assets from Credit Suisse PE Asia’s portfolio.
