Placement agent Monument hires Amundsson in Hong Kong
Monument Group has hired Niklas Amundsson, formerly of MVision, as a managing director in its Hong Kong office, which officially opened early last year.
Amundsson spent seven years with MVision, most recently as a partner, supporting capital-raising activities by GP clients in Asia. Before that, he was responsible for private equity fundraising at Almeida Capital and worked on the equity sales desk at Credit Suisse.
"Niklas is a private equity veteran with extensive fund placement experience, much of it in Asia, where he has built and grown a similar business previously," Bob Mast, managing director at Monument, said in a statement. "As we continue to expand our footprint in the region, he brings knowledge and relationships that will help us to succeed in the selective Asian market."
Boston-headquartered Monument has an office in Tokyo as well as Hong Kong, complementing its presence in the US and UK. The placement agent received its distribution license from Hong Kong's Securities and Futures Commission last January and has been looking to make several local hires.
It markets global funds in Asia as well as pursuing mandates from country and regional managers. Recent clients include Greater China and Japan-focused Phoenix Property Investors, which raised $750 million for its fifth property fund.
Since its inception in 1994, Monument has helped GPs raise funds totaling almost $80 billion of equity against an aggregate target of $76 billion. These funds span buyouts, growth capital, distress, mezzanine, credit, energy, natural resources, infrastructure and real estate.
