Evercore Asia names chairman, COO following Lexicon acquisiton
Evercore Partners has elevated Senior Managing Director Stephen CuUnjient to the position of chairman of Evercore Asia, and has appointed MD of Lexicon Partners Marcus Thompson to the role of COO in Asia. Both will continue to be based in Hong Kong.
The announcement comes as Evercore, an independent investment banking advisory, completes its acquisition of London-based corporate finance advisory Lexicon Partners. As part of that process, Evercore has obtained Lexicon Partners' global operations, including its Hong Kong bureau, which it launched in 2007. The transaction is subject to the approval of the Securities and Futures Commission and other regulatory bodies, and is expected to be completed in Q3 2011, according to a statement.
Prior to joining Evercore, CuUnjient was vice chairman of the ASEAN region at Macquarie. He has also held the positions of managing director at Merrill Lynch and director at Salomon Brothers, which has since been re-branded as Citigroup.
Thompson, meanwhile, joined Lexicon in London in 2004 as a partner, and opened Lexicon's Hong Kong office in 2007. He also worked at Salomon Brothers in London and New York.
In February of last year, Evercore Partners also acquired asset manager Neuberger Bergman's Private Funds Placement Group, formerly the asset management arm of Lehman Brothers, for an undisclosed sum. In addition to Evercore's Hong Kong bureau, the firm has offices in several locations in the United States and Mexico in addition to offices in London and São Paulo.
