WI Harper, ITIC lead $4m Series A for Taiwan's HWTrek
Taiwan business networking startup HWTrek has raised a $4 million Series A round led by WI Harper and the Industrial Technology Investment Corporation (ITIC), with participation from Legend Star Capital, JD.com, and Global Brain.
HWTrek manages the Project Development Hub, an online platform that connects start-ups with manufacturing and supply chain experts who can help them realize their projects. The company will use the new funding to accelerate development of its platform, according to a blog post. It will also open an office in Shenzhen.
Originally launched as a crowdfunding service in 2013, HWTrek now focuses on helping hardware entrepreneurs forge vital connections to set up their supply chain. Teams that sign up on HWTrek set up hubs for their projects and invite collaborators to participate.
WI Harper is a US-based firm that primarily invests in early-stage and expansion deals in mainland China. Its investments include app search engine Quixey and digital marketing service provider Admaster.
ITIC is a Taiwan-focused fund that supports the transfer and commercialization of technology in Taiwan. Earlier this year it set up a joint venture fund with the Battelle Memorial Institute's investment unit 360ip to invest in knowledge-based emerging industries, such as materials technology, optics, and electronics.
