Ex-EM Alternatives execs join Pomona’s Asia team
Pomona Capital has hired Ernest Lambers and John Stephens as managing directors in its London and Hong Kong offices, respectively, with a remit to focus on the firm’s investment programs in Asia and other emerging markets.
Both Lambers and Stephens were co-founders of EM Alternatives, an emerging markets fund-of-funds manager established in 2007. Prior to joining Pomona, Lambers was EM's CIO while Stephens served as managing partner.
Before that, Lambers was head of emerging markets for AlpInvest Partners, where he led primary fundraising in Asia and the developing world. He has also worked at NIB Capital Bank in Singapore. Stephens formerly focused on private equity advisory and M&A transactions in Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe with both Projects International and Cape Point Capital.
Pomona has nearly $7 billion in capital commitments from a global group of 250 investors. Supported by a strategic partnership with ING Group, it owns partnership interests in over 500 private equity funds and is active in the secondaries, primaries and co-investment spaces. The company opened its Hong Kong office in 2007.
