HK’s Nest appoints ex-Intel executive to set up accelerator franchise
Hong Kong-based seed investor Nest has appointed Peter Dingle, formerly of Intel Corporation, to lead its newly-established Branded Accelerators program.
Under the new initiative, Nest will customize accelerator programs for different multinational corporations. Each program will be run as a joint venture. The aim is to allow start-ups to utilize resources, mentorship and advisory services from outside organizations to drive innovation and growth without disrupting their existing business models, according to a statement.
Dingle spent more than 15 years at Intel, most recently heading up the chip maker's tablet and mobile business development in Asia. His new role in Nest will be to bridge the gap between start-ups and the corporate strategic initiatives of multinationals, encouraging major brands to see entrepreneurs and start-ups "as complementary rather than disruptive."
"Peter brings enthusiasm, passion and experience to both brands and founders, required to grow our programmes globally," said Simon Squibb, CEO of Nest. "His skillset will be a huge asset both to Nest and the broader start-up ecosystem in Hong Kong".
In December, Nest teamed up with AIA Group to launch a 12-week healthcare and wearable technology focused program known as AIA Accelerator. Hong Kong-based start-ups have not only received resources and mentorships from AIA and Nest, but also potential investors in these groups' networks.
Nest said financial technology and smart city-themed programs will follow in coming months, through partnerships with different multinationals.
Nest claims to be Hong Kong's only full-service start-up incubator, helping to build and scale high-growth businesses in Hong Kong and throughout Asia. It has also launched an equity crowdfunding platform - Investable.vc - to allow professional individual investors get participate in angel investments.
