KKR hires Akhil Puri for India Capstone team
KKR has hired Akhil Puri from TPG Capital as a director for its Capstone unit. He will lead the private equity firm’s engagement with its portfolio companies in India. Capstone’s current assignments in the country include Dalmia Cement and supporting the expansion of domain registration company Go Daddy.
Puri spent four years with TPG's operations team, supporting companies in Indonesia, China, Singapore, Japan and India. Most recently, he was vice president, director and COO of Buma, Indonesia's second-largest mining contractor, and a director at Delta Dunia. TPG and Government of Singapore Investment Corp. (GIC) invested $400 million in Delta Dunia in 2010 after Northstar Pacific Partners bought a stake in the company and used it to acquire Buma.
Prior to joining TPG, Puri worked for General Motors in Detroit and Shanghai and for Unilever in India.
"KKR Capstone is a world-class private equity operations team that combines deep local knowledge with proven global resources and practices," Puri said. "I look forward to working with the dynamic companies in KKR's India portfolio - helping them to grow both domestically and internationally."
Led by Scott Bookmyer, Capstone's Asia team comprises 16 experienced industry executives and functional specialists. They are deployed with portfolio companies throughout the region, helping to deliver improvement in business growth, efficiency and capital allocation. They also lead the implementation of KKR's global green portfolio program and other sustainability efforts.
KKR has invested more than $1 billion in India and currently has 17 professionals based in Mumbai, focusing on private equity and non-banking financial services.
