
Fidelity Growth Japan leads Metaps series B round
Fidelity Growth Partners Japan has led a JPY1 billion ($10 million) Series B round of investment in Metaps, a Tokyo-based mobile software developer. Existing investors have also taken part in the round.
The platform, known as Metaps, allows Android app developers to monetize user traffic through advertisments. Since the company's launch in August 2011 it has focused on Asia and North America, setting up addtional offices in Hong Kong, Singapore and Silicon Valley.
In a statement, the company said the funding would be used to secure more talent and expand the Metaps service across the region.
Since the proliferation of Android smartphones globally, Metaps claims its business has expanded at an average monthly rate of 60% with revenue growing more than 175-fold. The company aims to be a market leader by the end of this year.
The rapidly evolving mobile applications space continues to be fertile ground for venture capital investment across the region. In the last two months alone several deals have closed. .
Last week, Indian Angel Network (IAN) and Sequoia Capital became shareholders in VC-backed XinLab, which operates under the brand Vuclip, after selling their share in acquisition target Jigsee. Other recent deals include Matrix Partners investment in mobile payment services provider M-swipe and Samsung Ventures' invested in Fixmo, a mobile security app.
