
EQT acquires Taiwan's Gala TV
EQT Greater China continues its investment run via the acquisition of Taiwan's Gala TV in a partnership with CEO Lin Poa-Chuan as co-investor. No financial details were disclosed.
Established in 1997, Gala is one of Taiwan's leading TV content providers with four channels that are carried by all major cable operators. GTV offers a mixture of in-house produced, commissioned, and acquired content. that includes a library popular Chinese-language TV programs, attractive both domestically and to overseas markets such as China and South East Asia.
"GTV has a strong market position with leading viewership shares and unique strengths in drama. We look forward to working together with GTV's experienced management in developing the business further. EQT's previous experiences with new media platforms and digital channels will also be leveraged to further develop GTV," Fredrik Åtting, Senior Partner of EQT Partners in Hong Kong, said in a statement.
Barclays Capital, Gala TV's financial adviser, ran the sale with Clifford Chance acting as its legal adviser. EQT was advised on the legal front by Baker & Mackenzie.
