Former ChrysCapital MD seeks $350m for new fund
Former managing director of ChrysCapital Brahmal Vasudevan is targeting $350 million for a spin out fund focusing on emerging markets in India and Southeast Asia.
Vasudevan, who joined ChrysCapital in 2000, departed the firm earlier this year to return home to Malaysia to plan the fund. According to The Economic Times, his firm, called Creador, was created with six senior executives. Up to $100 million of the fund's corpus was raised from management and high net worth individuals in Indonesia. Creador is also negotiating with US-based LPs to raise the remaining capital.
Its targets are expected to include companies in the financial services, consumer, pharmaceutical and media sectors, and will be managed out of offices in Chennai, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta.
ChrysCapital's website, which still lists Vasudevan as one of its investment team, notes that Vasudevan was previously director of marketing at Southeat Asia pay-TV operator ASTRO, and served as international marketing manager at British American Tobacco, based in London, and worked at the company in Malaysia.
His investment experience included work at the Boston Consulting Group.
