Ashish Dhawan to retire from private equity
Leading Indian general partner Ashish Dhawan will leave ChrysCapital - the private equity firm he founded - to pursue work surrounding social issues in India. In a statement to press, ChrysCapital has announced an 18 month management transition into a collective leadership based on equal partnership.
Dhawan will continue to lead the organization until July 2012 and will relinquish his duties to focus his talent and energy on not-for-profit K12 education in India. Meanwhile, Brahmal Vasudevan, a Managing Director who joined in 2000, will be leaving ChrysCapital later this year to return home to Malaysia and will focus on investments in South East Asia and India.
A team of six experienced managing directors, Ashley Menezes, Gulpreet Kohli, Kunal Shroff, Ravi Bahl, Sanjay Kukreja and Sanjiv Kaul, will take over Dhawan and Brahmal's responsibilities and lead ChrysCapital in the future. "Nothing changes until July 2012. Even thereafter, I will continue to engage with any activities that pertain to any investment recommendations made till then. I have full confidence in our ChrysCapital team and know that the firm will be in good hands after I leave," Dhawan said.
ChrysCapital, which returned $300 million on its last fund, expects to be back in the market in mid-2012 with a smaller fund focused on mid size deals, where it sees a
better risk-reward ratio.
