
General Atlantic appoints Apax's Sandeep Naik as India head
General Atlantic (GA) has appointed Sandeep Naik as managing director and head of its India office in Mumbai. Naik will lead GA’s investment advisory activity in the country, focusing on growth companies.
Naik was previously a partner and co-head of Apax Partners' India office leading investments in the healthcare, financial services and retail sectors. He participated in a number of deals, including Apollo Hospitals, Spectrum Labs, Esprit Pharma and Xanodyne.
"We are pleased to welcome Sandeep to our global team and to lead our India office," William Ford, CEO of GA said in a statement. "Sandeep's background, expertise and leadership will be a significant addition to our team and underscores our commitment to this very important geography."
Naik said he looked forward to continuing to expand GA's activity across India and looked forward to being an active partner in the firm's global team.
Prior to joining Apax, Naik was also global marketing manager at Medtronic, a medical devices company, a scientist at the Mayo Clinic and a consultant with McKinsey and Company. He also co-founded medical device start-up InfraScan and was recently selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.
Founded in 1980, GA manages approximately $17 billion, investing more than $2 billion per year globally. Since it first opened an investment advisory office in Mumbai in 2002, GA has invested more than $1 billion in Indian growth companies.
