
Actis's Benjamin Cheng resignation confirmed: update
Benjamin Cheng, Beijing-based partner with Actis, the leading UK emerging markets PE firm, has left the firm, a spokesperson at Actis’s London headquarters confirmed to AVCJ, following earlier reports.
The spokesperson said that “Ben has stepped down from Actis.” The original Reuters reports stated that Cheng had decided to retire from the firm to take a break; however, Actis did not elaborate further on the reason for Cheng’s resignationon when contacted by AVCJ.
Cheng joined Actis in 2003. During his tenure, Cheng was involved in nine transactions, including leading Actis's investments in Grentech, Suntech and Shunda. He served on the board of several investee companies and is currently a director of Inpac. He was well known as a private equity pioneer in China.
