Colony recruits former TPG partner Chang
US $39 billion real estate-focused group Colony Capital has recruited Justin Chang, formerly a partner with TPG Capital in Hong Kong, as a principal, to be based in Santa Monica, CA, and focus on extending Colony's investments into energy, healthcare, natural resources and consumer plays.
Principal at Colony is a more senior role than in many other firms. Chang originally joined TPG in 1993 and retired from the firm at end 2008, according to Colony. At TPG, he had board seats with investees including Lenovo Group, Shenzhen Development Bank, Crystal Decisions and ON Semiconductor, and was chairman of the board of TPG's Singapore semi investee UTAC Holdings in 2007-09. Thomas J. Barrack, Jr., founding chairman and CEO of Colony Capital, remarked on his "investing experience in diverse sectors including energy, healthcare, technology and consumer products. Justin’s skill set will help us expand the Colony brand to many of these industries across the globe.”
