Jungle Ventures, Spring Seeds back big data start-up
Jungle Ventures has led a S$1.5 million ($1.2 million) round of funding for Crayong Data, a Singapore-based big data start-up, with participation from Spring Seeds Capital.
The latest round brings the total amount of investment raised to S$5.5 million, according to a statement. Anurag Srivastava, co-founder and managing partner of Jungle Ventures, has joined Crayon Data's board.
Started by enterprise analytics Suresh Shankar and Srikant Sastri, Crayon Data makes products to "help traditional enterprises tap into the power of Amazon-like analytics."
Its flagship product - SimplerChoices - helps companies connect their internal data with unstructured data outside, including digital and social media. By connecting multi-dimensional data, the platform provides richer and more intelligent data-led decisions to its client, according to the company.
Crayon operates development centers in Singapore and Chennai.
"I believe that what Crayon Data has set out to do is cutting edge," said Jungle's Srivastava. "Their SimplerChoices play, and one that is already helping traditional enterprises like banks, retailers, telcos, hotels, etc. offer more effective choices for their consumers, while changing the way they use big data."
Other investments made by Jungle Ventures include financial services comparison platform iMoney, mobile commerce app ShopSpot, micro-lending platform Milaap, social payments platform fastacash, digital media platform ebus and vacations rental site Travelmob which was acquired by Homeaway.
Spring Seeds Capital is an investment arm of Spring Singapore. It currently manages three funds under its portfolio. They are Spring Start-up Enterprise Development Scheme, Business Angel Scheme and the Sector-Specific Accelerator.
