INCJ, VCs back Japan big data firm Smart Insight
Innovation Network Corporation of Japan (INCJ) is to invest up to JPY1 billion ($10.3 million) in Smart Insight Corp, a big data analysis software developer for the corporate sector. The business has also secured JPY400 million from Energy & Environment Investment and Nippon Venture Capital.
Smart Insight - a start-up established by Uchida Spectrum, a unit of printing equipment maker Uchida Yoko - has developed a search-based application software, called SMART/InSight, that enables analysis and utilization of data scattered both inside and outside companies.
The application is already said to be in use by a number of large corporations, including a major Japanese automobile manufacturer. According to a release, the investment will be used to establish a global development structure and for collaborating with overseas partners to pursue joint development, sales promotion, and market entry.
Smart Insight also aims to develop a cloud version of its software that allows not only large corporations but also small- and medium-sized enterprises to use the tool for big data analysis, and by creating a software-as-a-service (SaaS) type global product in collaboration with a cloud service provider.
