Australia’s CHAMP PE hires ex-CVC executive
Australian GP CHAMP Private Equity has hired Graham Brooke, a former executive with CVC Capital Partners, as a managing director based in Sydney.
Brooke previously spent 15 years at CVC, five of which he spent managing the firm's portfolio interests in the Australia as head of operations before returning to the London office in 2013.
This was months after the recapitlaization of beleagured media giant Nine Entertainment, which led to a record A$1.9 billion ($1.97 billion) write-off for CVC, and the resignation of Adrian MacKenzie, the managing partner responsible for CVC's Australia business. The firm is no longer actively pursuing deals in Australia.
CHAMP confirmed that Brooke will start in the third quarter this year, and that he will report to John Haddock. Haddock was promoted to CEO a year ago, as the company's founders Joseph Skrzynski and Bill Ferris look to step back from the day-to-day running of the firm's portfolio companies.
Skrzynski and Ferris originally established Australian Mezzanine Partners (AMP) in 1987 and then teamed up with New York-based mid-market GP Castle Harlan to form CHAMP (Castle Harlan Australia Mezzanine Partners) in 1999. CHAMP reached a final close of nearly $1.5 billion for its third buyout fund in 2010 and is understood to be seeking the same amount its fourth fund.
