Navegar commits $15m to Philippines-based TaskUs
Manila customer support outsourcing start-up TaskUs has received a $15 million series A round from the Philippines-based Navegar Fund.
TaskUs, which is headquartered in California but operates in the Philippines, handles customer support requests from US tech companies including Uber, Groupon and Tinder. Its services include email, phone and chat support, along with operations such as content moderation and graphics generation.
In a blog post, TaskUs said it will continue to focus on providing services for emerging companies rather than established ones. The company says it refuses to work with telecom companies, despite their domination of the customer service market, because of their focus on cost over quality of service.
TaskUs was founded in 2008 with the co-founders' own money. This is the first outside funding raised by the company. It reportedly plans to open more offices in the Philippines and also expand into Latin America.
Navegar is a Philippines-dedicated private equity fund with PHP5 billion ($110.9 million) in committed capital. It invests in established businesses seeking growth capital, with a maximum investment size of PHP1 billion. The fund was created in 2013 through a partnership between Swedish alternative asset manager Brummer & Partners and local investment professionals Honorio Poblador IV and Javier Infante.
