Equis launches SE Asia's largest solar project
Renewable energy-focused developer and investor Equis Funds Group has launched Southeast Asia's largest solar energy project in the Philippines.
The Cadiz Project, located in Cadiz City in the Negros Occidental province, will provide 132.5 megawatts of electricity, enough for about 167,000 homes. It is eligible for the Philippine government's feed-in tariff program, under which renewable energy providers are compensated at a predetermined rate for 20 years.
Helios Solar Energy Corporation developed the Cadiz Project. The company is a joint venture between Soleq, a solar power developer and Equis portfolio company, and Philippines real estate developer Gregorio Araneta.
This is the fourth renewable energy project that Equis has sponsored in the Philippines; in total the firm's portfolio in the country comprises 237 MW. It has another 60 projects under development and construction throughout Asia.
"As we expand into our target markets, we increase our ability to bring costs down for consumers whilst advancing the efficiency and reliability of renewable energy in markets reliant upon imported fossil fuels," Equis CEO David Russell said.
Equis closed its second fund last February at $1 billion, along with raising a $300 million fund for follow-on investments to its first fund and a $400 million vehicle for two existing platform investments.
