Southeast Asia logistics player Deliveree raises $80m
Gobi Partners and SPIL Ventures – the corporate venture capital arm of shipping business Salam Pacific Indonesia Lines – have led a USD 70m Series C round for Southeast Asia-focused logistics marketplace Deliveree.
Existing investor Inspire Ventures, a venture builder in Southeast Asia, also participated. Inspire and Ardent Capital provided USD 2m in 2016, according to AVCJ Research’s records, and Deliveree has gone on to raise USD 105m in funding. This includes a USD 14.5m Series A in 2017 and a USD 18.5m Series B in 2020. The company’s other backers include PSA Unboxed and Asia Summit Capital.
Launched in Thailand and now present in Indonesia and the Philippines as well, Deliveree operates a trucking and cargo marketplace that connects corporates to drivers for first-mile and mid-mile delivery. It aims to serve as a “logistics supermarket,” enabling customers of all sizes to access affordable, flexible, and scalable trucking and cargo shipping solutions.
In the past 24 months, Deliveree claims to have grown gross transaction value by 3.2x, putting it on course to reach USD 100m this year. It is a top-five cargo carrier in each of its core markets with a network of nearly 100,000 independent drivers and trucking companies that complete more than 25,000 shipments a day. Internal headcount is now nearly 500.
The Series C proceeds will be used to deepen market penetration, expand services into areas like container cargo, and generally build out the platform, according to a statement.
"Post-pandemic, we are moving into an inflationary environment plagued by supply chain issues. Deliveree has built the best tech platform that is well-tested by marquee customers, and this will enable them to optimize and lower total cost of operations for the logistics and shipping industry,” said Kay Mok, a managing partner at Gobi.
