Felicis leads $80m Series B for Singapore SaaS start-up Supabase

Singapore’s Supabase, a software-as-a-service (SaaS) and IT provider for app developers, has confirmed a USD 80m Series B round led by Felicis Ventures.
Coatue Management, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and Square Peg Capital also participated. Coatue led a USD 30m Series A last year. Total funding to date comes to USD 116m, with Mozilla and Y Combinator among the company's earlier backers.
Supabase defines itself as an open-source alternative to Google’s Firebase platform with database, media file storage, and user authentication services, as well as instant application programming interface (API) creation, real-time subscription features, and edge computing functions.
CEO and co-founder Paul Copplestone said the company had grown 1,900% in the past 12 months, with the app developer user base now exceeding 80,000, according to TechCrunch.
“If you look at the world’s most valuable companies, even in the current market environment, it’s either database or security, both of which, right now, are two top areas,” Aydin Senkut, founder and managing partner of Felicis, was quoted as saying.
“[Copplestone and co-founder Anthony Wilson] are very impressive as founders. They truly move really fast. The speed at which they ship code and impress customers is honestly at a level that I’ve only seen at companies like Google and Shopify.”
