CDIB adds managing director in China
CDIB Capital has named Stephen Li, previously a managing director at Ping An Trust Private Equity Capital, as a managing director responsible for China.
At Ping An Trust, Li was responsible for monitoring, value creation, exit management, and risk assessment of investments. Prior to that, he was a director on CVC Capital Partners' Asia operations team. Earlier roles were in consulting with Booz & Company and Deloitte.
"He brings significant experience, especially in operational management and value creation, which will help us further develop our business in China and strengthen our existing and future investment portfolio," Lionel de Saint-Exupery, president of CDIB, said in a release. "Stephen's appointment reinforces our long-term commitment to the China market and he will be a strong addition to the team as we continue to explore growth and buyout opportunities in the region."
Hong Kong-headquartered CDIB Capital is the pan-Asian private equity arm of China Development Financial. It has about $1.2 billion in assets under management with additional bases in Shanghai, Seoul, Taipei and New York. It is most active in consumer, manufacturing, services, healthcare, and technology.
Recent team building activity includes the appointment of Alex Ying, a 20-year veteran of The Carlyle Group, with a view to reinforcing China buyout capabilities. Last month, CDIB formed a structured credit business by hiring three senior executives from Carlyle, including Tor Trivers, June Yub Chen, and Kyu Jung Sim.
