
ADV hires ex-KKR executive to head up Southeast Asia
ADV Partners, a mid-market pan-Asian private equity firm, has recruited Rahul Bhargava as a managing director to lead coverage of Southeast Asia.
Bhargava was previously a Singapore-based director at KKR, responsible for credit and special situations investments in Southeast Asia. He was part of a three-person team KKR recruited from Leafgreen Capital Partners in 2014. Leafgreen provided structured growth capital to mid-market companies in the region. Before that, Bhargava was one of the founding members of Henderson Global Investors’ Asian PE business.
ADV is currently deploying its second fund, which closed at $637 million in June 2019. The firm describes its strategy as working with entrepreneurs and management teams to provide bespoke solutions that meet strategic, financial and business objectives. Target companies often require capital to resolve corporate and shareholder dislocations in addition to supporting growth.
According to AVCJ Research, Fund II portfolio companies include Wanxue Education, a Chinese company that focuses on postgraduate exam preparation and vocational training services, and Feedback Infra, an India-based infrastructure project advisory specialist.
ADV was set up in 2013 by Brad Landes, Suresh Prabhala and Jianyi Zhu, whose previous experience includes stints at distress and special situations investor Mount Kellett Capital and the Asia principal investment platforms of J.P. Morgan and Goldman Sachs. The firm, which closed its debut fund at $545 million in 2015, has offices in Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai and Mumbai.
