Advantage buys Vietnam's Elise Fashion
Advantage Partners has made its first acquisition in Vietnam, buying women’s fashion brand Elise Fashion for an undisclosed amount.
Elise was founded in 2011 to target 20 to 45-year-old women, and now has a line of children’s wear and accessories as well. The company aims for vertical integration of all its operations, from design and manufacturing to sale at its 95 retail stores across Vietnam.
In a statement, Advantage said it was attracted to Elise by its leading position in the branded women’s fashion market, its high-quality product line, and its commitment to ethical manufacturing standards. The GP plans to work with the management team to accelerate growth by leveraging its experience in the women’s fashion sector through companies like apparel brand Credge.
Advantage is based in Tokyo and investing from its debut Asia fund, which closed last year at $380 million. The Advantage Partners Asia Fund writes checks of $20-70 million and targets Asian companies that have a Japan angle, which could involve market entry, acquiring local businesses, or leveraging Japanese branding, technology, or management expertise.
Previous investments from the fund include the acquisition of plastic bottle manufacturer Plastic Centre and metal components maker EKO, both based in Malaysia. The firm also acquired 35 restaurants in Beijing and Tianjin from Papa John’s International last year.
