Jungle co-leads $29m round for UK AI developer
Jungle Ventures has joined UK-based venture capital firm Lakestar to lead a $29 million Series A round for Engineer.ai, a developer of artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled software development tools.
Engineer’s flagship product, Builder, is a tool that automatically generates and assembles common software features from standardized chunks of reusable code, allowing human developers to focus on the more differentiated aspects of their projects. It offers extended support to customers, including the BuilderCare extended warranty and CloudOps, an online marketplace that provides access to hosting, marketing, and other services.
The company targets entrepreneurs working on solo projects and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) looking for ways to optimize their development teams. It claims its products have been used by developers working on projects for organizations such as the BBC and Virgin. Jungle intends to help Engineer expand its offerings in Southeast Asia.
“We’re believers in Engineer’s total ecosystem: with bespoke software, aftercare, and a marketplace for all recurring services, SMEs don’t need to go anywhere else,” said Amit Anand, co-founder and managing partner at Jungle, in a statement. “Ultimately Engineer’s Builder is the SaaS (software-as-a-service), except that this time it’s affordable, customized and actually delivers value to your business and its customers.”
Deepcore, an AI-focused incubator sponsored by Japan’s SoftBank Group, also took part in the round.
Jungle is currently raising its third venture capital fund, which launched earlier this year with a target of $150 million. The fund focuses on Series A and B investments across sectors including consumer internet, financial technology, and SME-focused enterprise software developers.
