Monk's Hill names new Malaysia venture partner
Singapore-based Monk’s Hill Ventures has engaged Mohd Ridzwan (Reez) Nordin as a Malaysia-based venture partner.
Nordin (pictured) will focus on helping portfolio companies hire talent and expand geographically, especially in the enterprise software, financial technology, education technology and business-to-consumer segments. “There is much to learn from each other, with a myriad of opportunities to contribute to each other’s growth while at the same time seeking out areas of potential partnership to further grow the regional ecosystem,” he said in a statement.
Most recently, Nordin was part of the technology investment team at Malaysian sovereign wealth fund Khazanah Nasional. He is credited with leading several initiatives to discover and nurture entrepreneurs within corporates, including angel matching funding and pre-accelerator programs. Prior to that, Nordin co-founded Kaymbu, a US-based education technology provider.
Monk’s Hill management has a history of combining investment and entrepreneurial experience. The firm’s two managing partners, Peng Ong and Kuo-Yi Lim, served as co-founder of Match.com and CEO of technology venture fund Infocomm Investments, respectively.
Monk’s Hill focuses on post-seed stage technology start-ups positioned to leverage economic growth in Southeast Asian markets. It closed its first fund at $85 million, exceeding the target of $80 million with LP backing from investors including Temasek Holdings and YJ Capital.
