Skadden hires Asia fund formation partner from Ropes
Skadden has appointed Geoffrey Chan, formerly head of the Asia private investment funds practice at Ropes & Gray, as partner and head of its Asia Pacific investment management practice.
Hong Kong-based Chan, who joined Ropes from O'Melveny & Myers in 2011, focuses on the formation and structuring of Asia-based US dollar-denominated funds, ranging from private equity and venture capital to co-investment and real estate. He also advises on fundraising and holding company structuring, as well as internal fund issues and investment activities.
He has previously represented managers such as CITIC Private Equity, Fosun Capital, FountainVest Partners, RRJ Capital and Unicorn Capital.
"Geoff's fund formation experience will augment our existing full-service capabilities to meet the demands of sponsors and investors interested in forming funds and other investment vehicles to invest in China as well as other global markets," Julie Gao, head of Skadden’s China practice, said in a statement.
Chan’s departure from Ropes leaves Vincent Ip as the firm’s sole private investment funds group partner in Asia. He was promoted to the position last October.
