Golden Gate invests $2.5m in Indonesia's Alodokter
Singapore’s Golden Gate Ventures has committed $2.5 million to a Series A funding round for Indonesian healthcare information portal operator Alodokter.
US-based firm 500 Startups and Singaporean entrepreneur Lim Dershing also participated in the round. All investors in the deal also took part in a 2015 seed round alongside US technology investment firm Fenox Venture Capital.
It follows Golden Gates' commitment last year to invest $4 million across six Southeast Asian start-ups, including Alodokter. Golden Gate typically makes investment in a range of $50,000-$500,000. The capital will be used for a regional expansion, according to Tech in Asia.
Founded in 2014, Alodokter offers healthcare reference materials and interaction with Indonesian doctors, including more than 100,000 patient questions answered to date. The service is now understood to receive 1,000 patient question per day. New response functions are being planned incorporating artificial intelligence technology.
Golden Gate has backed more than 30 companies across Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korea and the US. Earlier this year it closed its second Southeast Asia venture fund at $60 million. The firm closed its first fund in 2012 at $10 million.
